The blooms have a second flower on the end of the main stamen. There is probably a name for this stem...

This plant always seems to do this, Fluff. Not sure if it's the variety or if it's an aberration. Hopefully soemone on GoY will come up with an answer.

If you Google hibiscus plant with second flower Elke ( I've just amended this comment) & go to a site called www.springerlink.com ...if you scroll down the google page it starts 'a note on some abnormal flowers...' it tells you about flowers like yours...

Thanks for the research, Fluff! I've taken a look and will now see if I can find some photos of one similar to mine.
This site has some incredible macro shots of hibiscus and hollyhocks: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artfeb07/bj-Hibiscus.html

Abnormal is always interesting, Fluff. Still trying to find other photos of similar blooms. Someone will find something, I'm sure. This plant has always done this.
