I expected them to flower this year so next year should be good?

Are these the ones you asked about in a question? Did they ever flower in the end? Also - did you buy them as bedding plants or grow from seed this year? If grown from seed this year - they may not flower until next year - so there's hope yet!

Hi Muddiewellie yes I think I did ask about them I bought them as quite big bedding plants in the spring, 4 plants planted here 2 elsewhere just kept getting bigger but never did flower I will be surprised if they ever do?

If you bought them, then they were meant to flower this year. Not enough sun I think - you'll know next time. Mine are still covered in flowers - I think they're great plants.

I did expect them to flower but they are not in shade but dont get direct sunlight. I asked the supplier he said next year but I think he made that up as he went?
Just read Dianthus barbatus (Sweet William) is a species of Dianthus native to Scotland, often called "Stinking Billys" following the Scottish defeat at Culloden by the Duke of Cumberland.

How funny - sounds like sour grapes, as it doesn't stink at all! Maybe they will make it next year then - no harm in waiting and seeing I suppose, they do look very healthy.

I watered and fed them regularily do you think I perhaps shouldnt?

No, I think you did the right thing and that's why they are so strong and that should help them make it through winter, as they must have a really good root system. They are biennial and take a year to grow and a year to flower. Yours must have only been planted this year. They might need a little protection is we have a hard winter - are you planning on mulching?
