Thanks M, funky innit! What amazes me is how green and lush it still looks. We keep the stream running right through the winter so that the local wildlife and birds have a reliable water source. I do wish they'd stop taking the sphagnum moss off my stones though Grrrrr

LOL! My dad puts a little glycerin in his pond, & rubber balls so his fish can get air!
15 Sep, 2009
Glycerine, that's a good one thanks Dad, wouldn't it affect the fish though?

The Jungle in Winter !! Puts a totally different slant on it doesn't it Jen ? :-))

It's a jungle for all seasons Sue, incredible how these tropical looking plants survive, these withstood the Arctic winter we enjoyed last year, and that went down to -20! The trick is to have tropical 'looking' plants that are native to colder climates. 8-)
15 Sep, 2009
And you know all the 'tricks' !! Wonderful :-))
15 Sep, 2009
The glycerine doesnt seem to have affected them, its just a tbs to alter the freezing point of the water! Works well in birdbaths too!
15 Sep, 2009
Thanks Marie ... save smashing the ice on mine :-))
15 Sep, 2009
It works for a bit, but I spose it depends just HOW cold it gets!
15 Sep, 2009
Tad warmer down here than where you are ! :-)
15 Sep, 2009
I'll bet it is! I''ve got my heating on!
15 Sep, 2009
I'll definately give the glycerine a go, brilliant idea! I'm not the only one with tricks it seems Sue 8-)

He tops it up with TEPID water too, if its really freezing, says it doesnt freeze as quickly as hot water would!??!!
15 Sep, 2009
That's interesting, wonder why! Has he got fish?
15 Sep, 2009
Yes! He says hot water could burn them, but also boiling water will freeze quicker! I dunno, maybe he's just senile! LOL!
15 Sep, 2009
NO, I heard that ice cubes freeze quicker if you use hot water, so I think he has a valid point.
15 Sep, 2009
I thought I had heard that too, but wasnt sure if it was just from my dad! I take everything he tells me with a pinch of salt, he's always taking the p&&&!
15 Sep, 2009
I'll try it out 8-)))
15 Sep, 2009
Try it where there arent fish first!
15 Sep, 2009
I'll just make the ice cubes then....8-)
15 Sep, 2009
LOL! Good idea! Try the glycerin at the same time, but separate. Did that make any sense??
15 Sep, 2009
Uuuuuuuuuuh will let you know 8-))
15 Sep, 2009
LOL! I meant in separate trays?!!!
15 Sep, 2009
Oh, wish I'd read that before I did it LOL ;-)))
16 Sep, 2009
LMAO!! Why, what did you do????
16 Sep, 2009
I made half with and half without glycerine, then wobbled it as it went in the flippin' freezer, Duuuuuhhhhhhh 8-(
17 Sep, 2009
LOL!! Sounds like a me trick!!
17 Sep, 2009
It was probably the wine 8-)))
17 Sep, 2009
LOL!! That grape juice'll do it every time!
17 Sep, 2009
I might spill the ice cubes but never the wine! 8o)))
