Hi there, as I'm new to gardening I've come on this site for some advice and a lovely chappy called Bamboo gardener has given me some fantastic ideas. He suggested Pieris, Camellia, Skimmia, Rohododendron, Azalea. I've also bought some small starting shrubs - Gaultheria procumbens, japanese eunoymus golden maiden, hebe james stirling, pieris little heath, leucothoe scarletta, rhododendron impeditum. I hope I've got enough room now as I may have gone a little overboard as they obviously grow! I'm going to put a Phorium? in a large pot on the stump so It should look lovely when it's all established.

Great suggestions - will look forward to seeing photos as it all develops and fills out. I do like the idea of putting a phormium on that tree stump - I love the dark purple to black flax variety.

I've seen the photos in reverse order. So I now see the before. The after was a good result!

Thanks, I like to think so too. It's going to take a while to get established but It should start to look great by next spring/summer (hopefully!). Will keep you all updated.

The beginnings of a fantastic bed - what do you think you might plant in there?
