I love a great harvest shot, and this is just great. :-)

Hi all, and thank you!
The harvest makes it all worthwhile....
I make lavender oils mostly for massage and medicinal use (burns etc), excellent for relaxing in the bath too. It's quite nice in cookies too.
The stems are bundled and put in the pond as an anti algae 'thingy', the leaves are used in pot pourri.
I usually chuck a few on the chiminea or bbq, keeps the mosquitos away and smells divine!

If you soak them in saltpetre you can make your own incense too!
You make your own oil?? Sounds intriguing!

Ooooh that sounds lovely, just soak them for how long M?
I use sweet almond or jasmine oil to steep the seed, strain it and add a few whole sprigs to the finished bottle, it's wonderful!
Where do I get saltpetre from?

I'm still trying to source it! If I do, I'll let you know, & I'll dig out the 'recipe'!
Ah, so its a massage/flavouring oil! Good stuff! I thought you were distilling essential oil there!

Thanks I hope you can find it, I'd really like to try that one. I have no still or I would try that too! I do use good, neat, Vodka to make tinctures as it's clear and practically tasteless. The St John's Wort tincture has been exceptional this year, amazing stuff it is....the yellow flowering parts are used but the hypericum in it turns the tincture a vibrant Blood Red.

Sound great! I could do with some of that, lol!

Potent stuff M, this stuff would certainly put a smile on your face!

22 Sep, 2009

Sounds just what I need! Stress levels a wee bit high right now!
:~)

You OK?

22 Sep, 2009

Yes, much better now, just been a bit fraught the last couple of weeks. Going to have a chat with quack tomorrow, hopefully.
I just need to settle a bit, but with the job c***up its made things a bit iffy!

You've had a lot of changes to deal with M, be kind to yourself please and take a little time out to adjust to it all.
I think you're so brave to start the Uni course and I know that you're enjoying it but it's stress just the same.
If you think it might help, you could try some lavender oil on your pulse points (eg wrists, temples etc) to calm you during the day.
A few drops in the bath before you go to bed at night, with a cup of chammomile tea would be lovely for you. 8o)

A bath would be heaven, but I've only got a shower! Already had the chamomile tea, & I use lavender on my pillow at night anyway! I tend to sniff at it during the day rather than wear it.

Ah...errr...ummmm, shower it is then!
A nice one to do (if you have 'access' to a lavender plant), put a handful of the leaves into one of those drawstring net bags that you use with washing powder tablets, and hang it under the shower head so you're showered with the essence.
I use that trick a lot with all sorts of aromatics; lemon thyme, rosemary, eau de cologne mint etc ...works in the bath too, just hang it under the hot tap and voila!

22 Sep, 2009

I've used it under bath taps, but never thought of using it in the shower! Good thinking!
I was promised a bath when I took this house, but never got it!

Showers are refreshing, but I love to wallow!

So do I, & its how I used to treat my Raynaud's!
I dont like showers, can never get warm in them!
