Astilbes need a moist soil - will this be damp enough?

Astilbe fine, but they disappear in the winter - Heucheras would be fantastic here too, there are several varieties with leaf colours ranging from purple to reddish purple, orangey pink, plain green and lime green, all flower after a fashion, don't do much in the winter, but retain most of their foliage. Primulas, polyanthus, Ajuga reptans Fuchsia, all would do well there, facing west. Pieris if you want something taller and larger altogether, Skimmia too.
Didn't know you'd posted this, as its not under Questions, but was directed to it by Mookins!
