Somewhere I have seen the suggestion of wrapping the roots in paper or plastic to form a conical shape before putting them through the moss .... thus making it easier to thread through and causing less damage to the roots. What is your opinion, is it worth doing ?

yes Xela i have seen that done too - but to be honest i have never done it that way myself - this is how i do it- and i have never had a problem with them growing away happy after. if you make a nice size hole in the moss with your fingers first, just pull it appart so that is more than big enough to take the root ball easerly and then close it back up over the root once its in, then firm them down you should find that they are fine - lobelia plugs are quite robust you know, i think messing about with paper would be more fiddley and difficult to get off without damaging the plant anyway. but give it a go see which works best for you- they swear by the paper method on gardeners world. who am i to question Monty! lol
