They bloomed later this year, probably due to the radical pruning they had in spring.

oh that is so pretty, Grammazoo. just posted a pic of Monkshood that has just started blooming...it is standing up rather well as everything else is dead with the cold spell we're having. but it was very late to bloom too...and the dahlias have been frozen before they completely blossomed. the buds are frozen black...boo hoo.... Is this the case with some of your flowers too? It sure has been a weird summer here.

It was a very cool, wet summer until late August, then we got some hot days, but mostly overcast. September was mild with a lot more rain, & October has been cool & wet : ). I think some of the garden just gave up waiting for sunshine, lol! We've had our first frost, so the annuals are pretty well done, but the downtrodden Cosmos keep blooming. My Annabell Hydrangeas never really turned white this year; they stayed a pale green until they started to rust. It certainly was a different sort of year in the garden... now the leaves are falling, most of the trees are bare, and some of the winter birds have come back. I wonder if we will continue the wet trend & get a lot of snow as well?

I prefer moderated temps with a lot of snow...to extreme cold with little or no snow (like up North) would be nice to have a mild winter but somehow I doubt we'll be that lucky!
