Bunked off work this afternoon & came across this in Oxfords botanic gardens!!
It's huge!!
If you look carefully you can just make out the flower.

Bernieh - You have the climate to grow them out there, do people have them?

Yes they do grow them but they're not common up here in the dry tropics ... I have seen one in my old neighbourhood and it was a massive thing. It was eventually cut down because it was interfering with power lines though.

'Dry tropics'!!!
I spent 6 weeks in Townsville/Cairns & it peed down almost daily!

Lol! You must have been visiting Townsville during one of our infrequent wet seasons - it definitely rains far more up in Cairns than it does here.

Enjoyed it though - spent some good nights in the Victoria which was a bit of a bikers joint.
Queenslanders were pretty laid back (except in Brisbane)!

Yes we - Queenslanders that is - have the reputation over here of being like the country cousins ... definitely laid back! Brisbanites are trying too hard!

They're a fabulous specimen - we call them Bird of Paradise trees because they grow so tall.
