Oh that's such a shame as it must have memories attached. Did you photograph the ice basket.

This has happened to a pot of mine too Megan. I am not bothered about the pot but it contains a miniature rose which my Mother in law planted in the seventies. It has followed us from house to house and pot to garden and back again so I will try and put it in a better one ! We do become attached to some things don't we lol ?

Memories, holidays, gifts are all around our gardens i think. I hope your miniature rose thrives.

Sorry you lost your pot Megan. This happened to one of mine once,so now I stand them on feet, and wrap bubble wrap around it,and not had a problem since, even with the pottery ones, which aren't frost resistant.Don't know if its correct, but think its the ice that expands that does it..does anyone know if this is
the reason?..Answers on a postcard please.lol.

Yes that's it Bloomer, just as it expands in cracks in the road and causes potholes ! It just shows how cold this winter has been, having been in this pot for quite a few years and this is the one which finished it off !

I'm sure that's exactly what happened Bloomer. It was attached to a South facing wooden fence between house and garage, flat back and a half basket effect, must have filled with snow and/or ice. The other 2 ok as sheltered in the porch. Still i should persuade him indoors to get a replacement in the Algarve !

A familiar sight in my garden! I have lost so many pots.

Unfortunately there is a newly planted Daphne in this. Jacqueline Postill, but I feel it's best to leave while we are still getting these hard frosts.

I had a Portuguese half-basket, pottery, outside for years but this year it shattered to the ground leaving a perfect shape in solid ice ! Shall just have to return to the Algarve to replace it. I wish . . . .
