Then I think it is a flowering quince - Chaenomeles. The fruit is often used when cooked to set jam. They come with various colour flowers, one of my favourite is a very pale apricot. If you look in the RHS A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants on page 251. The stems can be spiny, I hope this is of help - I could be wrong of course :o(
