I counted at least a hundred cantaloupe growing that summer then suddenly the vines withered and the melons died. The same thing happened to my cucumbers. That's when I learned about the vine borer worm. I'm going to try again and use row covers and radishes to repel the moth that the borers come from. I might even get a butterfly net.
