Just to add that I am a bird lover, the scarecrow was to try to discourage the increasing number of magpies from frightening the smaller birds. Not to mention the collared doves, one of which I witnessed being pinned down by a magpie.

My dad would be horrified that I'd put his photo on the internet I think. He needs fattening up though, he look a little on the thin side!!
