Sanbaz they have come up against this fence every year (11) since we moved in but this year for the first time they have flowered! I wonder if the late/wet spring has made a difference?

i think because we have had such a cold winter the spring flowers have been much better than normal , i even noticed forsythia seems brighter yellow in all gardens to, maybe the cold shock did them good,and the late spring could have contributed to this also,

Yes I agree although later everything seems much better.
