It's best to wait or devide earlier in the year,but i've done that enough times with other plants,sometimes we just don't have patience.Most plants will just sulk for a bit and then recover.Just know you're taking the risk :-) Sounds like yours is doing fine.

Thanks Columbine, just to keep you updated, the plant did sulk for a few days but has pickd up now and the buds that were on it have now opened up and it's flowering. beautiful!

i've inherited one of these today, from my mum. she split one of hers that she had in a tub. although am i right in thinking she really should've waited until it had stopeed flowering? shouldn't complain i suppose, i've gained a free, and very beautiful plant.
