As flowering progresses up, side shoots open giving the effect of flowers top and bottom with nothing in between.

Gorgeous, Wylie! I'll be trying Watsonias this fall--it will be interesting to see if they will survive the following summer! Is that an evergreen or deciduous type?

It goes dorminant during the summer, and comes back up in the fall, so it should be safe for you during the hot, hot summer.

Aahh! To sleep safe under a cooling blanket of soil. Well it works for most bulbs anyway!
Unfortunately, the earth is pretty hot here, too: well over 100 deg. F in the top 8 inches. I'll find out how it does.
