This purple shrub is a beauty, what is it? Sorry but I am not a very knowledgeable gardener. I am looking for easy growing shrubs,in a part sun/shade spot, and not growing too fast. Would this lovely shrub be suitable?

Could be a berberis Tichy, grows most anywhere and not too high, though prickly, it can easily be cut to size, there are pinky leaved ones too:-)

Mmm prickly, not too sure about that, as I am looking for shrubs for my terraced garden, I dont really want anything prickly as the terraces are not that deep and I have to go round things with ease to tend to other shrubs and I dont want to end up at the bottom which is a loooong way down, but thanks anyway Cristina and Bornagain

Tichy, what size purple/red leaved shrub do you want? Have you thought of cotinus or sambucus black lace, both can be kept smaller by pruning and are beautiful:-)

Been off line for a while and only just seen your question to me Bornagain. I am just about looking for anything in the shrub department. It's to fill my new terraced garden, anything really which doesn't grow too tall, ideal height 1.50 - 2.50 meters. Easy to look after with a long lasting interest, with or without flowers. For a sun/part shadey position. So far I have a few small conifers, a couple of pieris. A spiraea japonica, Fuchsias, Azaleas, Cordylines,Lilies etc etc. The 2 bottom Tiers I can reach easy, so I have lots of flowers and rockery plants it's the top 3 tiers I want easy to look after things, as I dont want to go to those too often. Sorry I am going on and on here, that's my problem, I forget myself and always end up almost writing a book.

I'm no expert, but there is a lovely new miniature photinia little red robin which is evergreen and needs next to no messing, photinia might be a group for you to look at as well as those I mentioned before , which as far as I know would just need cutting back once a year. I think the photinias are all evergreen. Choisya is another good group (mexican orange) They are evergreen and have pretty scented flowers. The golden leaved one 'sundance' is a particular favourite of mine and is as bright as any flower. You could also have clematis scrambling through them, I think the alpina and macropetela don't need pruning at all, I'm just learning more about them:-)

Oooops missed out euonymus, another brightly coloured evergreen, some may not be large enough for you, but others grow quite tall. I've just realised Cristina your pic has been taken over, sorry, I got carried away:-(

My fault entirely Cristina, I too got carried away, it all started with your lovely Berberis, it is a lovely shrub. And so are your other fotos.
