They do so well here in the LA heat.

I'm always surprised when they do well in the heat, humidity, sometimes the torrential rain, but mostly the dry conditions here ... as long as they're in some shady spot they seem to thrive.

It seems to be a good year for them this year. I planted a few in pots and they are growing like crazy. I have noticed that they don't do so well in the ground though as the bugs devour them. I have to spray them and fed them a systemic anti bug food so that they are not eating until death even in pots.
I didn't think they did well when too wet though.

Most of mine are in pots too ... the only trouble I have with them are those dreaded mealy bugs!!! As for surviving our 'wet' season ... as long as they're sheltered somewhat from the driving rain and are not left to sit in puddles of water, they come through well.

Yes, I have found that to true of mine to. I get the mealy bugs but also caterpillars and some other buy eats the leaves. I Buy this dreaded harsh Tree bug & feed stuff for trees and pour a little in the end of a spray bottle them fill it with water and spray them and any other plant the bugs like. I also try to feed the roots before I plant them. That's the only way I can have them.
