This is really common up here DD, the scots like their evergreens! No wonder, our winter is so long!

And you get the lilac effect each spring. :-) Should make a great mask for the neighboring house.

My Ceonothus have all been quick growers Karen, this one looks a nice size already. The one that grows in the bottom corner of my garden came in a bag from Sainsbury's 9 years ago and reached that size in 5 years. I trim it as a tree. Will post a pic :-)))
