Me too. They are grown all around the villages locally because we handed out five or ten tulip bulbs to every exhibitor at our local flower shows. We had no money for prizes so it seemed like a good idea. When we did start to get money in, we continued the idea of prizes for everyone, in addition to bigger prizes for the cup winners etc. The theory being nobody can be a winner if there is no competition. It also encouraged those just starting to learn about gardening to have a go and then they learned from others. I have had these for over 10 years. I do not lift them as they are underplanted with alpine strawberries and the oil pipeline from tank to the boiler runs under them.
