big olives on our trees (October 2009)
We got some olives on it in 2009, and my husband tried to pickle them. Later on he thought they didn't look appealing, so he threw them away. I would have tried them at least. But I fear they are not really very good ones, perhaps more as an ornamental asset (?). I'll let you know at the end of season if they were magnificent ;-)
We leave them outside in winter time, that is, a bit sheltered near (or in) the porch of the front door, except when it freezes really hard. Then we always get them inside the hall for that short period, we don't even bother to give them a better place with more light. But that was then, ... when they were still small and manageable, but now the pots have become extremely heavy, so we think we'll leave them outside, and cover them with frost protection fleece if necessary. I think that, the bigger they get, the more frost resistant they 'll become. I hope so! We sometimes pass a gardening centre where they have very big plants, really old ones, and they got left outside too during winter time.
