Maybe its a welsh poppy. I have these in the front yard in some shade where nothing else grows. Think a bird dropped the seed a couple of years ago - technically a perennial I think. I also have some californian poppies coming out now aswell, they are all orange apart from one and are annuals, but do self-seed :)
