Thats lovely now we can see what you meant in your question? A rockery/scree garden would be one option as would shrubs for all year interest. But Noseypotters idea of a water feature could also work.

I cannot have a pond as the dogs would be in it all the time. What other water feature could i have?

Water running over a stone ball or a dish of pebbles would give you the site and sound of water and perhaps surrounded by different grasses?
