Rudbeckia

Rudbeckia

I have real problems with this area, which is a shame because I actually have decent light here. First, in certain spots, if I dig 4 or 5 inches down, I hit solid rock. So nothing grows. I need to find something that can handle those conditions but will also be able to hold its own with the Rudbeckia, which grows tall. Secondly, the house was treated for termites last year and was trenched around the foundation, so I can't dig closer than 8" from the house. Not good, when you're trying to work in an area that's narrow to begin with.

I think I might just get a big birdbath and some giant turtle statues and be done with it. It's so frustrating - I was trying to plant penstemons and shasta daisies this spring and everywhere I dug there was rock. Solid, unmoveable rock.
