Pileated woodpecker in love with neighbour's car!!

Oh bless! perhaps his name is Narcissus?

Awww maybe he,s looking for a mate .....or he might just be in love with your neighbours car lol

He's become a neighbourhood celebrity! directly behind my neighbour''s house is a large area of tall maples...a dense forest that has been left untended for many years... it is ideal habitat for the pileated woodpecker...but he doesn't seem to have found himself a mate... thought I heard two different drummers a few weeks ago...and thought that the problem was solved... but here he is back again!!
I apologize for the grainy picture... the problem is window screen...lol.

Last year there was little bird at work that kept landing on car wing mirrors looking at himself all the time ..:o)))

the more I observe the birds the more I find to like about them. This woodpecker is a source of much amusement...and sparrows in the birdhouse are like Peyton Place!!

The stories my neighbour tells!! I think that he may have been a rescued bird at some point because he is not reclusive...he comes to my neighbours yard and seems to like large shiny vehicles...or the particular colour of blue. He is not shy of people ...as my neighbour could have laid hands on him a number of times. He was damaging the paint on the little blue car and my neighbour wanted him off of it... but (wisely) shooed him from a distance. Imagine what a blow from that beak could do to your eye!! or skull?

Aye...probably imprinted,as they call it when wild creatures can associate without fear with humans....
