cucumber plants have male and female flowers... don't be disappointed if nothing comes of the first blossoms because they are usually male... female blossoms have a swelling behind the blossom (that's the ovary that becomes the fruit). Also , as if our lives weren't complicated enough there are some "engineered" varieties that don't produce seeds so you can't propagate from one generation to the next. you have to buy new plants every year! That's a good reason to check out the sites on the web for heirloom seeds.
