I cut this hard back last year, didn't think it was going to flower this year because of it, but it has and smells wonderful.

I have two of these Louise, one is round the side of the building and also in a pot, they have been in their pots for years, I give them a good mulch every year though and some blood, fish and bone.
Im thinking of putting the other one in the ground though, once I can find a suitable place. :o)

Do you think it'll get a lot bigger once it's out of the pot and got a larger root-run ?
I fancy one but have limited room .... i 'do' though have a very, very large pot which is needing revamping, i have heucheras in there currently but they're getting a bit boring now and i fancy something different !

I think it might Louise, it's a really large pot they are in at the moment. My other Lilac that sits at the side hasn't flowered this year.. too eager cutting back I think but it's a better shape, if you fancy a change though then I can say that they have done really well in the pots, the one in the piccie is almost 3 feet, there is a gap at the back on the pot which you don't see that both my cats lie in they just love this plant.
