What is the blue band around the crown of the plant ?

Hi louise1. Yes a large garden, ( 1 .3 acre ) The blue band is the top of a barrel that the Gunnera is planted in.

Do you move it around then, why wouldn't you want it in the ground ??

Hi Louise1 My garden is part of the old river Nene bed and has sandy fast draining soil so the barrel is to retain moisture. Gunnera need to stand in wet ground or a river side.
