Thanks for your welcome Wendikins. This is the first photo I put on the site, which in itself was a test for me! I took the photo last night just before the light faded. When I moved to my house 14 years ago the garden just had two old apple trees, the rest of the shrubs and trees I planted as small as twigs that I bought cheaply from Woolworths when money was short whilst my children were young. And wow have they grown! My problem is that I tend to let things get too large for the garden rather than have a gap where I have pruned back. My mum passed away 10 years ago and every year I plant a new shrub in her memory. I like to think she would be very pleased with my efforts.

That's a lovely idea about planting as a memorial. I am going to try and scan some photo's onto my computer of my Dad's garden as I haven't got any digital ones.
You have done well with the garden,it looks luscious !! I know what you mean about large shrubs. I would love a Ceanothus and bought one a few months ago. I took it back after a couple of days as I realised it was going to be too big for the space once it was grown. My husband is always keen to keep things in check whereas I like them to get free reign so I could see conflict ahead !! We have a Hypericum at the corner of our drive which he cut back a few weeks ago as he said it was getting out of hand. It is now on it's way back to the original size and is going to be covered in flowers !!

Welcome to GOY !!
It looks beautiful. Lovely mature trees and shrubs which is a great background for annual colour and adding new things .
You sound like me, try things and see what happens. My Dad was a natural and had a fabulous garden. If you can pick things up cheaply it's worth giving them ago. I have put some seeds in my raised bed and can't for ttne life of me remember what they are !! Looking forward to seeing what they turn out to be !!
Looking forward to seeing more photo's.
