A close up of this amazing wild flower. I've never come across it before but it obviously loves the flinty/clay soil here.

Hi Lori,thanks for the info. I have eaten salisfy and its very good but fiddly to prepare!
The other Goats Beard is Aruncus and has flowers similar to Astilbe.
I shall be posting more photos of wild flowers later today, cos I just don't know what they are.

yes, you're right Chloris... it's aruncus dioicus...just couldn't bring that to mind when I was writing my comment!! (senility)

See who else is growing Tragopogon pratensis (Barba Cabruna).
See who else has plants in genus Tragopogon.
It is also commonly known as salsify..and the root is a culinary curiosity. It is eaten as a veg and is said to taste like oysters...I love the beautiful yellow flowers but the seed heads look like dramatic giant dandelions. I have a photo of the wild flower that grows here but didn't tag it... it's also interesting that there is another plant given the common name "goat's beard"...it's a very tall, white feathery flowered plant in the same family as astilbe (I think) can't think of it's scientific name just now.
