At the back of the bed, she's really grown a lot this year, even though I pruned her hard.

Strange, as there was a question a few days ago from someone whose Lavatera had died in the winter.

They do get damaged - I lost the other one through wind and the small amount of snow we had, it just pulled out of the ground. :-(( I should have cut it back harder.

will cut mine right back to after flowers i think, or should i wait till next year before new buds, posted a pic so you can see how its grown from 6inch last spring barbara

No - you can dead-head if you want to, but wait until the autumn, and then cut it about half-back, to give the shrub winter protection. Then as soon as you see new growth in early spring, cut back quite hard to new buds. Hope that helps. :-)

No probs. Just don't leave it, will you - as you've already seen, they can grow ginormous, and fast!

There seem to be quite a few things that are thriving after the harsh winter.
