This poor old thing gets dragged around from house to house and still manages to look decent

It looks great. Ever think of planting some Creeping Genny around the edges of the planter ? Both the green and the gold would look great.

In a few more weeks the hosta will be so large it will actually be hanging over the edge of the planter. In the past I have tried planting things around the edge, but the hosta just dominates everything so I left it to itself!

Does your Hosta survive the winter in the pot? How cold does it get there?

It has survived several winters. It can get to around -25 or 30 here and it gets totally frozen solid then gradually thaws and quite happily grows again!
