cal. poppies

cal. poppies (Eschscholzia californica (California poppy))

this year i have weeded out all the orange poppies which always dominate, it is very interesting to see what colours there are. Also to see the garden without them is completely different but i like it and am glad i did it.

I know what you mean about the orange poppies.
One thing that I have noticed though is that the orange ones seem to be the strongest plants.

yes i agree Meanie but i figure if you take them out the ones that are left can get stronger, maybe?

Hasn't worked so far!
My theory is that the orange is the true species, and the other shades are hybridised. I could be wrong though!

I know what you mean and it is true that orange and purple are the strongest growers in any plant mixture, but what i mean is, that there will will more room and less competition now, for the others to grow. Also what about the ivory ones that I have had coming back year after year, from seed that was just that colour, they are now just as many and as strong as the orange ones?
