Desperate state of barrel pond

Difficult to see but could it be oil seeping out from the wood?

I thought it looked like oil aswell. I hope you can get rid of it.

I wondered if the barrel was over treated with something like teak oil Hywel?

Looks like oil to me as well have you got the tub lined.?

I wonder if it affects the plants and any wildlife

thanks folks,it does look oily,its been fine for about five years though.i cant understand why it would start coming out of the wood now.having said that the barrel isnt lined.i wish i had lined it :o(. i dont have a pump sandra but am thinking of getting one,i will try anything! It does not seem to affect the plants or my snails or the horrid little creatures that are water lice i think.by the looks of it i may be in need of a magic wand any going spare lol.

sue think i would be tempted to empty it and line it though before it gets worse, then have a small pump to keep water from going stagnent

Its not leaking oil the tub is too old sorry I thought it was new.
Now I think it may be algea/pondscum? as in the spring I mentioned on here that I had a thin layer of yellow oil on my pond. I got some netting and skimmed it off and put sludge digester and barley straw in the pond it hasnt come back.I didnt see any oxygen plants in your tub you might try that? But it needs emptying and scrubbing first what ever you do.
