Not all bloom as beautifully as this one .. if had such blooms would treasure them .Those grey green leafed varieties have stunning leaves but cant say the flowers on them impress me much so yes snip them off ..aye bonkers I know .
But guess should own up to doing it , there feel so much better in the GOY confessional.

These are lovely! I hope to see blooms on mine this year. Fingers crossed. :-)
I Wont be removing them, unless they smell. I know people who remove them because they don't like the smell. I've never experienced it, but I don't like a scent to disturb me in the garden.

There's surely a difference between a smell and a scent? Do you like any scented flowers. Gt?

I like many scented flowers. But now and then a scent is not to my liking, then I call it a smell......lol. I love dicentra but I think the plant smells.....can't do much about it since that is the plant itself but I can smell it in the house, on the cat, everywhere. Dainthus, petuni, sweetpea, those I'll plant in plenty to mask things since I love those. :-)

Ah! I see what you mean, now. There's a white Lavandula stoechas called 'Tiara' that really 'smells', nor can I endure scented Pelargonium leaves - they definitely 'smell'. The other leaf 'smell' I can't abide is from Geranium macrorrhizum - I have to hold my breath when I'm cutting them back. Lots of other lovely scents to make up for them, though! :-))))

Well.... one's mans poison ...lol. I love the smell of the leaves of my G. macrorrhizum.. I think it's spicy... and it's only there if you're handling the plants...otherwise they just make a shadey area smell fresh. but there is a spirea , the 'smell' of which makes me feel nauseous and I don't care for the smell of nasturtiums... I love the scent of pinks, Swt. William, purple petunias, mint, and the strange and wonderful (wild?) ageratum that's blooming now... The bees, flies, and hummingbirds make such movement around it that it appears to shimmer!

I saw that pic. I thought it may be ageratum, wild would be less compact. But scented too. Interesting.

Is that what it was! Ah-ha! I do agree, though. Some 'smells' I find so awful, other people enjoy - like Choisya leaves. I love their scent, others think they 'smell'. lol. Nasturtiums? Yes, they can be a little overpowering...
You know what, Lori/Gt, I shall be going round the garden sniffing all the flowers AND leaves now, to check out which are 'smells' and which 'scents'. LOL

I think that scent is the most pleasing element in any garden.... night blooming jasmine! What could beat that? it is using the memory enducing aspect of scent to enhance a visitor's appreciation of your garden. ...certain "scents/smells" take me right back to a place and time... the other sense...the tactile aspect of leaves is interesting too.... the fuzzy softness of stachys byzantium leaves... the sticky hairs on the lychnis flowers... the sharp knifelike edges of a yucca leaf! Gardens are for all the senses... ... but what of sound? the rustle of leaves...the pop of a seed pod...the tinkle of water in a stream, pond or fountain, the sound of rain on pavements or leaves... the song of frogs, toads and the birds!! No wonder most of the religions of mankind equate heaven...with a garden.
