is this your garden soil, is it all chalky Tog,must be hard to grow things and hard to dig to ;o(

It's not all gloom, Sandra. My garden is on a slope and I have terraced it so at the top of terrace there is only a few inches of top soil, then it gets deeper as you go forward. Unfortunatly this is in front of my high wall where I want to grow climbers. So far it has worked for my climbing rose.

i see Tog, you can grow some clematis in pots cant you or could you make araised border along wall and put good topsoil in for clematis

I think I will be OK along the wall by digging out these pits, the Queen was grown over 2" this week.
