Astrophytums usually grow with thick very slowly extending vertical stems often remaining squat and globular and usually only very aged plants ever exhibit columnar form. (There are exceptions.) This is more like one of the Ceropegias exhibited at the same show. 'Curiouser and curiouser', said Alice.
