The wasps obviously decided this nesting box was wasted on the birds....

Saw a photo of one on the local news earlier, in a loft and it measured 6' x 3' so you had to feel sorry for the man who was called in to remove it !

I actually have another one in another nesting box in the ivy. I can't bear to get rid of them (not that I'd know how to!), but it is a bit of a worry.

There are lots of wasps, about in the garden now....i saw quite a few this morning, around the bird feeders...i put suet pieces & sultana`s with seed
in their feeding tray, i do believe they are after the sultana`s...i feel so sorry
for the wasps, not many people like them, because of their sting, they have never stung me...i think its when people get excited, when they are near,
the wasps seem to sense danger, so they defend themselves by stinging...
As soon as the cold weather arrives they will die off anyway...
If you think, you will have a problem, there are companies, who will remove
the nest for you...

Don't worry, Fp..., I have no intention of getting rid of them - at least, not until the winter, when they will be dead anyway. My husband was a beekeeper, so I know to keep absolutely still if they are around me and then they don't sting. As you say, if you don't bother them, they won't bother you.
Re the one in the loft, Shirleyt., I certainly couldn't have coped with that and do indeed feel sorry for the person who had to remove it!
