Thanks I'm addicted to them. Sad now as their season is over. Oh well start planting soon for next year!!

I know what you mean about having an addiction to a certain plant - for me it's the perennial Lobelias.
I think that my main issue with Alliums is my inability to get good results (unless it's an onion which will bloom for britain if I grow them).

Thanks I feel guilty now as I've just seen your profile that says you love Lobelia 'Queen Victoria'. I have one growing in my garden but I only like it for the colour of the leaves so every year I remove the flowers. I haven't done it yet in 2010 and I'm not sure I will be able to now!

Heathen!!!
Try growing Penstemon Huskers Red maybe as well - similar coloured leaves on tall flower spikes (it has a basal growth habit) with small near white flowers. Flowers a lot earlier than the Queen Victoria, so you could have that colour for more of the season. Just a thought. If you're unsure, there are some photos of it in my garden.
