I love those bright flowers below the plant!

Looks like trailing Lobelia to me! (am I right Alocoloman?) I think they're the Crystal Palace series....maybe? They are annuals here.
They are really eye-catching in a hanging basket or trailing from a planter...

Ah yes, I was looking into getting some of those.

Thanks Pip and Lori - and yes you're right it's sadly only an annual but trailing lobelia that my parents plant around their pond each year

My Alocasias were slow off the mark this year - we had an exceptionally cold and long winter last time around. You got eddoes - then it's Colocasia you probably have - these are sold as such in my local supermaket. I bought two - one grew and one rotted

That's great! both eddoes have put up shoots...but I'm having to bring them in as it has been quite cold (down to single digits Centigrade last night) It really needs more light but I'm hoping to bring it around so that it will be in next summer's garden.

That's nice for you.
We've had it pretty poor here (again) With areas of low pressure over or near to the UK for most of the month, August was characterised by cloudy and rather cool weather with showers or longer spells of rain at times. As a consequence, it was the coolest August since 1993.
There were very few warm days, and over England and Wales the mean daytime maxima were about 1 °C below normal. we also had our lowest single-day August temperature for 23 years, with it falling to 55f (12.8c) in Edgbaston, Birmingham
September's brought with it the cooler nights So I'm going to be removing all the Colocasias from the pond tomoroow to let them dry out.
Then it's off to dry compost and winter storage facilities as we don't go mega minus but we do go minus and Colocasias on avearge stop growing at +3c

I'm getting a nice little Alocasia collection together and will get some pics of them on here in due course

Everyone is commenting on Wonky World Weather...lol. Our August was strange too... The last two weeks of July and All of August saw consistently above normal..with peaks into the 100 deg. F. range and troughs into the 70's at night...sleeping was impossible! But the garden loved it... the pond had a serious algae bloom as a result...but the fish "weathered" it because I kept the pond topped up. The Colo and Alo put on some growth but never became huge...I've just brought them indoors because the night temps over the last week have been down into the single digits C.... 9 deg. C..night before last. Judging by the temp at which they become dormant...there's a ways to go yet..but I'm erring on the side of caution. Thanks for the good info will dry them out gradually for regrowth next spring.
Will keep an eye out for your pics!

I have alocasia just starting to do well in the mid summer heat... bought some eddoes at the grocery store and they're doing better than the more expensive nursery bought roots!
