The baby downy woodpecker began to come feeding on its own as the color strengthened. Here I hadn't filled the table, and he was determined to get the seed out of the hanging feeder.

He maneuvered himself this way to get that long beak straight on with the whole, and pluck out a seed at a time. Very persistent. I liked best the tail, bent to hold him from swinging backwards. LOL!

You did really well to catch him on camera! Sometimes I hear them when I am out walking in the spring, but I've only ever seen one in florida. It had a lot of bright red on it and I managed to get a photo. Lovely birds, amazing head-gear!!

This feeder is on the rail of the front porch, just before the big front window. I put the feeders there for Bianca to have the birds to watch in the winter. I have come to love watching them as well. A bit sad today, there isn't a sound and the food I put out untouched. The Juncos have flown south. These are the first woodpeckers I've seen here. I expect them every year after this one was brought up here. They gave me an hour visit each time! It was thrilling.
