Another excellent plant!

Im not into a lot of blue except in plants. This looks gorgeous against the darker background.

I am not a lover of brown, but after much debate and with advice from my wife (who is always right even when she is wrong...) I painted the fence with a dark oak stain.
This, combined with the mulch (I use B&Q playbark as it is soft, easy to spread, smells gorgeous and rots down nicely) which is also dark brown, shows up my plants and flowers nicely.
The Agapanthus don't grow too tall, so they are planted at the front of my borders. Flowering in late summer, they are an unusual blue colour for plants, but really nice.
I also have logs scattered about the beds as they add winter interest, break up the flatness, encourage insects and give the birds somewhere to perch.

Dont think my wall would look too good in brown GD! But the logs are a great idea..my borders arent big so this could be great..would also help to separate some of the sprawling plants. We do seem to have a lot of insects, particularly small scuttling spiders, but we have LOADS of birds so the more the merrier..
Do these agapanthus spread very much? Once inherited a garden with some fibrous rooted ones which were the devil to get rid of and they spread everywhere.

These Agapanthus were a free gift from the RHS for joining. My mum got me a membership for my birthday about 4 years ago. When they came (all 6 of them), I split them up and got about 20 or so plants which I grew on. Some I gave away.
They don't appear to be an invasive sort and certainly don't grow too tall. They have made nice but small clumps.
Let me know if you are coming to Hull anytime next year (we are well worth a visit!) and you can come and see the garden and you can have a division of the agapanthus.

I will indeed GD, as long as I dont have to handle any livestock thats smaller than a cat!! We have friends in Crowle and Worksop and were up in Beverley and Bridlington way couple years back on a stately homes and gardens holiday.
