pink double rhodie

There was a terrific wind storm in November 2006 and it blew about a 13 foot section off the top of one of our evergreens. It smashed into the area where there is the highest density of rhodies, lots of radical pruning but no fatalities fortunately. It must have improved life for this little rhodie as I don't think I have ever seen it bloom before. It is the only double rhodie I have.

The label on my orphan said...Rhododendron..Pink English it's buds look very dark pink, guess the colour will be obvious when it opens fully...I was so excited when I saw the buds swelling that I ran for my camera!! not a lot to see...but I wanted to have pics of the whole process of it's blooming...lol. Will post when it emerges fully...our weather has been cold, damp and dark... but hardly enough rain the moisten the topsoil. Is it getting sunny out there yet?

How exciting, I love the anticipation of a new flower coming to bloom. The weather has been up and down this spring, it stayed so cold for so long. We had a spike of hot about 10 days ago and then it mellowed out. We have been getting some rain but nothing major. I always find that this is the teasing time of year. You feel that finally the warm weather is here and then the mercury drops again. Fortunately, we had a fairly nice long weekend this past weekend.
