Young people as social innovators
The Skip Garden is helping to create a bio diverse and social ecology in Kings Cross. Most importantly, it is supporting young people to play a pivotal role in transforming this part of the city and the way we live and work in it. They are being trained to become social innovators who are building gardens and inspiring others to create a new and sustainable future.

Our projects are generating individual and collective interest through our practical actions such as composting, recycling, walking to work, and thinking about where food and energy comes from. They show that everyone can make a positive contribution to their future, the future of their community and the natural world.

Creative and electric energy
The way we work creates a fertile atmosphere which enables people to access and articulate values that support change, such as respect, courage and commitment. There is a creative and electric energy that occurs when different people get together - it is building a new and dynamic sense of community in the Kings Cross area that is already rippling out to surrounding areas.

Brilliant idea! These kids are already more aware of the world in a positive way. We lived it because there was nothing else, they are starting to live it for a reason! That has to be a fantastic thing.

Yes, I think so too.
We try to engage our grandchildren in gardening, in everything concerning the garden and 'living creatures' (frogs, snails and slugs, woodlice, earthworms...) so that they will have an eye for nature, and show some respect.
It endears me to see how they observe flowers, find them really lovely or extraordinary...
