Starting to get an idea

I had planned on making a rockery, but after shifting the soil and looking at the stones, it didn't seem quite right. Opted instead for building a small wall and making a raised bed. The next few photos show the steps.
Firstly, I wanted to get rid of the unsightly stump, so raising the bed and burying it under half a foot of soil worked well - I think.
