Geranium pulchrum

Geranium pulchrum

This is Geranium pulchrum, a hardy South African geranium. The name pulchrum means 'beautiful' and refers to the leaves, which are soft to the touch. They are coverd in soft, downy hairs. It is classed as a woody sub-shrub, growing to around 3ft high. The flowers are pinkish-mauve, sometimes with a lighter centre. It is evergreen.

This is interesting. With this and a few heucheras, grasses and hellebores, you could certainly have quite a bit of greenery in borders during winter even if there is no room for larger evergreen shrubs.

I thought I had lost it after yet another tough winter, but it is slowly coming back. It may flower for me next year.
