Thanks for your info 6d, I've also heard that, but that is usually blanket weed they mean, the weed on this pond was a floating weed like duckweed.

Paul, we haven't got this wildlife pond now, it was already here when we bought the house. I loved it as the frogs kept spawning in it , but after a few years we decided to get rid of it as it was practically outside the back door, and in the summer it used to smell!! The frogs now use the small fish pond, but may decide to make another wildlife pond for them. The pond never had a filter.
