I bought so many little tiny things in November for the shady garden, to grow on. I also bought some big things for instant impact. The big things have fared much worse than the little things.....counter-intuitive, but I suppose if you are a small thing, tucked in among bigger things, you have more shelter!

Yes, spared the elements slightly by being sheltered. Let's hope the weather is on the turn for the better now. : o ))

No, this will grow in any soil and likes Chalky soil. It doesn't do well in very wet soil, but apart from that...no problem.

We have this, it must be 8 ft now, but do watch out for the viburnum beetle.... Tinus and Opulus are the varieties it attacks most, the most problematic pest in the UK, sorry to ruin your day, we grow both and they are large established shrubs, so would be devastated to find we had it.

I will, but one of the good things about being up here is a lot of these pests have not yet made it up here! I have never seen a lily beetle for example. I know it's only a matter of time though!

That is true, and I hope they do not find you, down south can be a problem for the nasties!!
