Sensitive fern - new fronds

I know this isn't a very exciting photo, but sensitive ferns (Onoclea sensibilis) are my favorites. A big healthy mass of these is a wonderful sight. They thrive in wet soils, and we've had a wet winter, so I suspect that's why I have runners all over the place. This will be their year, I think! I just have to be a diligent waterer.

new plant growths are always a great site :):):)

especially when it's a plant you've been trying to establish for a few years! Well, you know the old saying, "First year sleeps, second year creeps, third year leaps!"
These looked pretty good last summer but something ate them, some sort of bug even though they are toxic and are not known to be favored bug, deer or rabbit food! I'll spray them this year with some red pepper spray and maybe that will work.

fingers crossed for you - only problem with my Ligularia is it is too tempting to insects and slugs

It's always exciting to see new signs of life! I have that fern too, but there's no sign of it, or Osmunda regalis. I'll post a blog with some fern photos for you when I find them!

I find that many ferns are slooooooow in the spring! I was actually very surprised to see these since normally they arrive a little later, but I think all the rain and snow helped. Last year I threw out 2 southern wood ferns because it was late in the season and I figured they were dead - then, surprise, I found them growing in my brush pile! So I have learned to have patience with ferns.

Blechnum chilense didn't put out any fronds at all last year, the pot just looked like bare soil. I'm glad now I didn't throw it out as there's one frond just visible!
