Lupins are great - nice colours here

I'm working on a 'sea' of them, but will have to wait until next year for the results...
I have been told that they have a long tap root and so wondered if they are difficult to transplant and when the best time to do this (if it's not too difficult) would be?

to be honest not sure on lupins - but they seem to be okay to be moved anytime - moved mine during summer and they just carry on as normal :):):)

Is there a specific technique? I always worry about killing the roots, not only of the plants to be transplanted, but also of those surrounding it, especially when the roots have become tangled together.... I'm lacking a little in confidence at the moment....

I know it is a scary thing when starting - what I do is dig around a foot away from the plant all around and then put hands in around soil and carefully pull it up - do not worry if you hear a ripping sound from roots - do it very slowly and should be okay - replant it in loose moist soil - to allow root to find its new path easy - try not to pack it down too hard - just a slight patting on top soil to allow it the plant to stand upright :):):):)
